Oh, my post is just an early morning ramble, I don’t mean to disagree with your suggestions, was just set off a bit by the mention of the “engineer shortage”.

My real rant would be about the shortage of management talent, from first-line to CEO, in modern corporations. It’s almost like they demand stupidity from the staff, not performance, and certaintly not intelligence. American business today feels so, so different from even the early 1980s, much less anything earlier. And this gets reflected down into education as well.

What I witnessed in the mid 90’s till about 3 years ago was that there were too MANY layers of “management”, talented or not. Corporations were “middle heavy”. The feild wanted something done it had to go through eleventy sumfin layers of management before it came back down to the field as approved. By that time the initioal problem had either doubled, or the project was now obsolete, or a competitor more streamlined had taken it over.
