That was back when it was fifty bucks a semester at UC Berkeley, and you were basically just working for room and board, but some of them got pretty irritating with it.

My mom was one of those who worked for room and board, since the dorms she lived in were co-op dorms where the students cooked their own meals and cleaned the building themselves. And her scholarships were like $500 a year or something, and covered the rest.

To put things in perspective, I just spent over $500 in books last week— for three classes. As soon as that happened, I was in the financial aid office applying for more money. *cries*

She can’t even begin to understand how expensive this shit is. I’ve borrowed almost $40k just for this academic year, and I’ll have another year to go after that. I’ll be paying things off for years, but it’s all worth it to me.
