Once we got the misreading of Marx as being opposed to democracy in our heads, it was inevitable. Then you had really shitty language like that dictatorship quote. Lastly you had the first successful revolution, by hook and by crook not by real revolution, happen in the nation that was the single most unready for it in the west. Had the revolution occurred in the Germany? Or had the Russians, after throwing out the Czar surrendered immediately? Then I would argue that things could have been far different.

The single most important thing would have been to prevent Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, alias Lenin, from ever returning to Russian… but if wishes were fishes…
