Video: Samantha Bee on the “Screamy, Incoherent Message” of Sanders Supporters

Just sayin’
Humor • Views: 52,573

YouTube

Samantha Bee says some things about Bernie’s supporters that need to be said, and this is pretty brave because it guarantees she’ll be attacked as a shill for the Democratic establishment. It’s already happening at YouTube in the comments section for this video, of course, with bonus misogynistic insults.

I have been explaining to a lot of people, both Europeans and Americans, that it is a mistake to call them primary elections. It is more like a marketing research survey: you float some names to see who the public likes and then put them up on offer.

Except in the case of DT, nobody in the party took him seriously until the masses were clamoring for him and they could not risk withdrawing the offer.

It’s simply amazing to me how, six months after the fact, most people still don’t seem to understand what a political party actually is. Like, at all.

Yes, we assume that an election is an election and that a vote is a vote…

But primaries and caucuses are entirely different things, and not only do they vary from state to state, there is no guarantee that the delegate count is going to reflect the popular vote.

About that re-canvass the Sanders Campaign wants…

Voting Machines that actually work

This is about money, and the narrative. To all of my friends that still support Sanders, go ahead, but this is as disrespectful to you as anyone else. It is not about winning, or a “rigged” system. Even if he “wins”, the delegate count remains the same.

I’ve got a pretty good relationship with the VP at the company who makes and programs the voting machines. I’ll know many people who will do the re-canvass on Thursday. It takes about 30 seconds to run the recount on each machine. Produces a tape like those old school 1980’s desk calculators.

It’s worth noting that it passed with huge bipartisan majorities in both Houses. Most folks misinterpreted the previous 80 years of stability and thought the rules were antiquated, and no longer necessary.

Oops.

But blaming it on Clinton? That’s a BIG stretch, almost revisionist in its overreach.

I’d also note that initially Sanders was considering a recount. Apparently he learned that he would have to pay a lot for that, but a recanvass is free.
So Bernie opted for free stuff.

Has he requested a recanvass/recount in any other state?

Seven procedural, one residency, and one voter assistance issue. Any shenanigans will not likely involve the machines. Worked with them in class with 16-18 year olds for ten years now. The Lykoi is a breed of cat, a natural mutation of the domestic shorthair. The Lykoi was developed in Vonore, Tennessee and is said to resemble a werewolf. The word “lykoi” roughly means “wolf” in Greek.

The Lykoi is a partially or almost entirely hairless cat that is genetically distinct from the Canadian Sphynx. The hair coat is unique in appearance in that it resembles the coat of an opossum when mostly coated. Standards call for a solid black roan coat, a wedge-shaped head, and a lithe body of solid weight without excessive bulk. Lykoi are said to be friendly and unchallenging in their behavior. They display a high level of affection for their owners.

A unique characteristic of the cat breed is that the Lykoi sheds a lot when older but regrows its hair later in life depending on the season.

The missing coat of the Lykoi’s face gives the breed a werewolfish appearance.

I hope we can maintain some sense of perspective instead of demonizing the entire demographic with sweeping statements about MRA shitheads and whatnot. To be quite honest, millennials have been steeped in anti-Clinton talking points since before their brains were even able to conceptualize skepticism. It should come as no shock that the pervasive anti-Clinton climate had a subconscious effect in their formative years.

Some of those folks are dead-enders. Fuck ‘em. Some of those folks are misogynists. Fuck them too. But I think there’s a substantial third bloc that is a bit more fact-based in their worldview, and they’re reachable to some extent.

If you think that Trump’s insanities and flexible morality haven’t stopped him from attacking anyone in this campaign, you haven’t been paying attention. Facts haven’t stopped him. Logic hasn’t stopped him, and Hillary’s not going to stop attacking Trump because she has a bunch of “scandals” that the GOP will continue to trot out despite being discredited for decades.

She’s running for President. Not her husband, and yet we’re supposed to fear her presidency because Bill is a liability? Really Shaun? That’s where you want to go? Because there’s a batcrap insane load of bad stuff in Trump’s attic that should disqualify him as presidential material that the rest of the GOP didn’t want to touch because they needed his supporters votes in the primaries. Clinton has no need to rely on that insane clown posse.

So yeah, she’ll go there. And the slapdowns should be epic.

I would agree - I think that third bloc you refer to has also been sold a very poisonous “both parties are the same” line. The difficulty is in correcting that to “both parties have flaws but one is pretty obviously better than the other”, because it isn’t any kind of sexy sales pitch.

This viewpoint is highly prevalent on slashdot and by extrapolation among educated white-and-white-collar folks, who would very probably have been voting mainstream Republican 25 years ago and who are not regularly confronted with the reality of living as a marginalized group under Republican policies.

After Tuesday the remaining Superdelegates will also break for her by probably the same 12 to 1 ratio she has now. Which means she’ll pick up 150 votes there. On top of that merely meeting her 538 targets on average adds 373 pledged delegates, for an overall boost of 435. Which would bring her total to 2728. A week later Washington DC votes, she will have already won, she has already won, but DC will break heavily for her, her target there is 12 delegates to 8 for Sanders. It may be worse for him because DC is plurality African American. If he waits for that final vote to come in he’s going to look absolutely ridiculous, the final contest will be seen as an abject repudiation. If he continues fighting after that he’ll have no cover, because his entire argument at that point boils down to disenfranchising the minorities who rejected him.

The whole thing is an intellectually masturbatory, insanely verbose attempt to justify what George Bush called “catapult the propaganda.” He doesn’t give a shit that he’s been lying this whole time because he’s deeply enamored with the fact that people actually believed and regurgitated his lies.

There’s an adolescent phase of learning wherein the developing person in trying to win an argument finally realizes that to knowingly repeat a lie often enough means they will eventually begin to believe it themselves. Their emotional knee jerk reactions will become indistinguishable from genuine affront when the lie is challenged, even as they know intellectually that it is a lie. What was an act eventually becomes real and it’s possible for a person to brainwash themselves. His entire verbal diarrhea was a defense of knowing this fact and continuing to lie anyway, a cynical rejection of the existence of objective truth.

To be fair, this is a situation where “both sides do it” is true for once. Everyone spins to the benefit of their own candidate.

The key is not to then write a self-serving pile of sub-PoMo bullshit about what you did.

Just found out last night that one of my law school professors, Tim Canova, is challenging Debbie Wasserman Shultz in the primary for her Congressional seat. And apparently it’s turning into something of a story - I only heard about it because a law school friend posted that it got some play on The Rachel Maddow Show. Not sure what to make of it, but Canova is a good and decent guy.

Bernie has raised millions for him already. Asking his donor’s to split their $27 between them.

Good that he’s not an ass.

Yep. “Blah, I don’t particularly like Hillary as a person or as a candidate, but obviously I’ll vote for her in the general” is not a viewpoint with which I happen to agree, but it’s certainly one I can respect.

Agreed.

The “In the meantime, let me express the 47 billion things I dislike about her in terms that sound remarkably like how I talk about Republicans” I am a little less respectful of.

They use it in pai gow poker (which I play sometimes), one joker in the deck, it’s either an ace or can be used to complete a straight or flush. Mostly, it’s just as a poker player, when I read that it’s like hearing someone say “he scored a point in the baseball game”.

You haven’t met the farmers, the cowboys, the loggers and the truck drivers. You don’t know the mountain men who live off the land, or the brave cops who fight the good fight in the urban war zones.”

Donald Trump, the welfare king

Investors such as Trump can write off depreciation of investment properties even if those properties actually increase in value, and because most real estate development is financed with debt, they can deduct the interest. Instead of selling buildings, they can incorporate them and make “like kind” exchanges that defer capital gains taxes indefinitely. Trump, depending on how he structures his taxes, may also be avoiding taxes by amortizing his name as an intangible asset. And, because his brand is his main asset and his business interests are far flung, he could argue that virtually all of his expenses are business related, and therefore deductible.

“I’d be shocked if he isn’t pretty much writing off his whole life,” says Bob McIntyre, head of Citizens for Tax Justice. “When you can write off your income and write off your consumption, you’re in a Leona Helmsley situation.” The late Helmsley, who also had a real estate fortune, is remembered for observing that “only the little people pay taxes.”

Trump would crush the winners of the U.S. economy

Donald Trump says it all the time: “We don’t win anymore.” If you got all your economic news from the presumed Republican nominee, you’d think U.S. businesses hadn’t added any new jobs or accomplished anything worthwhile since sometime in the Johnson administration. Americans nowadays, he keeps suggesting, are total losers.

While Trump’s rhetoric denigrates the achievements of U.S. companies and their millions of employees, his specific proposals are worse. They reveal a vision of the good economy as static, uninnovative and controlled from the White House. President Trump’s America is, despite the rhetoric, an economy with no place for winners.

Start with the candidate’s pettiest proposal: his not-so-veiled threat to unleash antitrust regulators against Amazon to punish CEO Jeff Bezos, who owns for The Washington Post, for the newspaper’s negative coverage of his campaign. To serve his personal agenda, Trump would rewrite U.S. antitrust doctrine. Forget protecting consumers from cartels; he would instead protect businesses from competition. And he would side with foreign governments against an American winner.

And now their standard bearer is a twice-divorced, thrice-married serial adulterer, and there’s talk of pairing him with ANOTHER twice-divorced, thrice-married serial adulterer as his running mate.

This is the kind of sh*t that pisses myself and other blacks off—-having others who don’t know what it’s like living while black in America telling those of us who are black what our lives are like. What I would say about us, in general, is that we have a strong yearning for social and economic justice that includes all Americans. It appears to me that this guy is attributing a type of selfishness to us that I’m not witnessing/experiencing, and the reason he’s doing it is because he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about, and I don’t think Sanders does either. Instead of Sanders focusing on social and economic justice for all Americans, his first move was to come out and push what I see as a divisive tactic by saying that he wanted to ”bring working class whites back into the Democratic Party.” He could have appealed to them without making it seem as if party politicians weren’t concerned about them, which is an egregious lie. Did white working class citizens not benefit from this president’s policies? If one believes Sanders, one wouldn’t think so which is another lie.

I’ve never quite grasped why they hate him so much. Honestly, he wasn’t so good at being President - too focused on details, and with a tin ear for leadership - but a lot of what we remember as bad about the country at that time had little or nothing to do with anything he did.

And by contrast, the recovery from it - which the Right credits to Reagan - is more to Carter’s credit than Reagan’s. Carter appointed Volcker to the Fed with the mission of choking inflation out of the economy. And he did. And when Volcker eased up on the money supply, the Baby Boomers entered their most productive years, fueling the Reagan Boom.

I’m kind of surprised no one has noticed the similarities between that article and Susskind’s “White House aide”…

The aide said that guys like me were “in what we call the reality-based community,” which he defined as people who “believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.” … “That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued. “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality—judiciously, as you will—we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors…and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

Meanwhile, Heritage is busy claiming that the US military is gutted because we’re still flying the B-52 and that other planes require cannibalizing equipment from other aircraft.

What’s entirely missing from that whole discussion? Namely that the USAF has failed to produce a single bomber after the B-52 that can do all that the B-52 can do. No other bomber can deliver the payload of the B-52 or the types of munitions - everything from SDBs to nukes to cruise missiles.

It doesn’t have the speed of the B-1 or the stealth of the B-2, but it doesn’t cost what either does, and it’ll probably continue flying long after other two are retired.

It’s the same story with the A-10. The USAF wants to retire it before its replacement is ready (the F-35), and the replacement can’t do the job nearly as well or as cost-effectively.

So, because the USAF has to watch its costs because its acquisition program for the F-35 is so bloated and everything depends on that program moving ahead, all the other aircraft in the arsenal are getting short shrift in the interim.

That’s also the result of sequestration, but the GOP doesn’t mind that except when it comes to things military.

Well, the Air Force did design and build a prototype for a B-52 replacement, it’s just that it fell victim to the belief amongst lawmakers of the time (particularly one Robert McNamara) that ICBMs could do the same job cheaper and better. That was the XB-70 Valkyrie, which would have put in service a Mach-3 bomber capable (with refueling) of intercontinental ranges while carrying the same payload as early model B-52s (before the “Big Belly” upgrade). But even the B-70, had it been put in service, would be over 40 years old by now and aging even more severely than the B-52 due to the stresses of routine mach speed travel.

The F-35 is a plane without a mission. The B-52 and the A-10 were designed for a specific role, and thus, they perform that role excellently. The F-35 is an attempt at a “jack-of-all-trades” aircraft, but the problem with a jack of all trades is that it is the master of none. We’d have been better off designing a new A-series attack aircraft, ordering more F-22s for air superiority, and sticking with the Super Hornet for the Navy. With the savings, perhaps we could’ve replaced the B-52 with a respectable long-range strategic bomber.

I still stand by my belief that brogressives love the idea of Western European-style socialism because those systems work for people like them. They just gloss over how those systems begin to break down once you begin introducing a significant population of “others,” how all the enlightenment goes out the window and the nastiness comes bubbling to the surface.

So much of the problem with the F-35 is the requirement to fulfill the Marine jumpjet role. To do so meant saddling the fighter variants with a fuselage that is mostly empty space without the lift fan, transfer box, and assorted support equipment. If you’d left the Air Force and Navy to their own devices, they would have produced a sleeker design with less superfluous crap. But instead we get this whale that is trying desperately to convince everybody that it’s a shark.

I still stand by my belief that brogressives love the idea of Western European-style socialism because those systems work for people like them. They just gloss over how those systems begin to break down once you begin introducing a significant population of “others,” how all the enlightenment goes out the window and the nastiness comes bubbling to the surface.

The downside of having a diverse, open society is that it is difficult to get people to look at everyone-even fairly different people-as “us.” There has been a lot of social pressure in, say, Sweden, over the years to keep people from gaming the system. You didn’t want to stick out as someone who spent too much money, or violated social norms. It doesn’t work when you have several groups with various norms.

It probably would’ve been cheaper to design a new jumpjet, a new fixed-wing attack plane, AND a new long-range strategic bomber, by this point.

On the topic of the F-35, I get the idea of commonality between the branches of the military; it improves logistics and lowers overall acquisition costs by introducing more users. However, the problem with that concept is exactly what we’ve been highlighting here: The missions for which each branch needs the plane have very little in common, so the plane winds up performing poorly for all of them. You can’t tell me an F-35 is a better interceptor than an F-22 (or even an F-16), or a better air superiority fighter than an F-15, or a better close-support aircraft than an A-10. It may be a better jumpjet than an AV-8B, but the cost of that compromise is that it sucks at doing anything else. And in the meantime, we’re stuck with the aging (but still capable) B-52, the incredibly costly B-2, and the B-1, which probably won’t hold its age as well as the B-52.

It would have been, but one of McNarama’s legacies was instilling in the DoD fear of any program that can’t be sold as “multi-role.” Instead of learning that the F-4 succeeded where the F-111 failed because it was a fighter designed with enough versatility to adopt other roles, they decided that the F-111’s problem was they didn’t rope the Marines into the program as well. Not to mention selling the F-35 to international customers before its even in service, which means backing out of the program will piss off all our allies at the same time.

B-52 sticks around because B-52 still works. Like the A-10, the design still has growth potential despite being over 50 years old. There’s something to be said about a 70,000lb payload capacity that can carry everything from nuclear missiles to a shitload of smart bombs.

The success of the LWF programs - the F-16 and especially the F/A-18 - is that they are designed to be good at one role, but capable of being adapted to other roles. The F-16 is a high-speed interceptor, but it can carry bombs and be a lightweight ground attack aircraft. The F/A-18 is a capable and maneuverable carrier attack aircraft, with the flexibility to carry air-to-air weapons and the performance to hold its own in air-to-air combat.

I’m all for commonality. Junk the F-16 and fit out the Air Force and Navy alike with F-18s. The F-15 will beat anything it’s likely to encounter. The B-1B is a cheap imitation of the B-1A canceled by President Carter—the elimination of the supersonic dash capability makes it no more useful than a B-52, just smaller and more expensive to run. Build the F-35, maybe, as a Harrier replacement. The Navy and Air Force have perfectly good fighters already.

And both programs are benefiting from upgrades that are filtering down from other programs, such as AESA radars based upon the F-22s design and Conformal Fuel Tanks like those fitted to the F-15E. It’s a testament to both programs that they’re still being manufactured today despite the insistence that they’re “obsolete.”

Once we got the misreading of Marx as being opposed to democracy in our heads, it was inevitable. Then you had really shitty language like that dictatorship quote. Lastly you had the first successful revolution, by hook and by crook not by real revolution, happen in the nation that was the single most unready for it in the west. Had the revolution occurred in the Germany? Or had the Russians, after throwing out the Czar surrendered immediately? Then I would argue that things could have been far different.

I think there’s three different types of belief in an all-seeing, omnipotent God. There’s mental belief, where one genuinely believes in God on a superficial level, but it isn’t such a core belief that it affects their behavior. They might think about hell every once in a while and worry about their soul, but it happens infrequently.

Then there’s visceral belief, where one genuinely believes in God so much that it does affect their behavior.

Finally, there’s insincere belief, where one claims to believe in God for convenience. This might be because they live in a fundamentalist household that would be hostile to atheism or because they might be a politician pandering to evangelicals.

Newt would probably fit in categories 1 or 3.

The single most important thing would have been to prevent Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, alias Lenin, from ever returning to Russian… but if wishes were fishes…

If only the Provisional Government hadn’t insisted on staying in the war….

That is such an utterly abiblical statement. You don’t have to be perfect but if your actions do not reflect faith by your works then your faith is not real and your cheap grace will not save your sorry ass at the Judgement Day.

So I would have thought, but a lot of people do like the idea that accepting Christ, or chanting Hare Krishna, or whatever will get them what they want with minimal thought or effort.

Why would an omnipotent being want to take advantage of our limited knowledge and understanding, and punish us for being as we were created?

Omar Kayyam did a goog bit of questioning in his quatrains. For example:

LXXXII
When, bending low, God moulded me from clay,
Incontrovertibly my life was ordered:
Without His order I abstain from crime.
Why should I burn, then, on His Judgement Day?

LXXXIII
That sin is irresistible, He knows;
Yet He commands us to abstain from sin.
Thus irresistibility confounds us
With prohibition:—‘Lean, but never fall!’

LXXXIV
The clay from which this human frame was moulded
Forewarned a hundred wonders for me; yet —
Could I be worse or better than I am
Who was, even before He fashioned me?

LXXXV
On every path I take, Your snares are spread
To entrap me, should I walk without due care.
Utter extremes acknowledge Your vast sway.
You order all things — yet You call me rebel?

LXXXVIII
Ordaining every cause for life or death,
Guarding this tattered robe we call the Sky,
Say, am I sinful? Are you not my Master?
Who sins when You alone created me?

He was not especially liberal. But he was a man of God who cared more about what was right than what was safe.

From his writings in Prison:

Who Am I? by Deitrich Bonhoeffer

Who am I? They often tell me
I stepped from my cell’s confinement
Calmly, cheerfully, firmly,
Like a Squire from his country house.

Who am I? They often tell me
I used to speak to my warders
Freely and friendly and clearly,
As thought it were mine to command.

Who am I? They also tell me
I bore the days of misfortune
Equably, smilingly, proudly,
like one accustomed to win.

Am I then really that which other men tell of?
Or am I only what I myself know of myself?
Restless and longing and sick, like a bird in a cage,
Struggling for breath, as though hands were compressing my throat,
Yearning for colors, for flowers, for the voices of birds,
Thirsting for words of kindness, for neighborliness,
Tossing in expectations of great events,
Powerlessly trembling for friends at an infinite distance,
Weary and empty at praying, at thinking, at making,
Faint, and ready to say farewell to it all.

Who am I? This or the Other?
Am I one person today and tomorrow another?
Am I both at once? A hypocrite before others,
And before myself a contemptible woebegone weakling?
Or is something within me still like a beaten army
Fleeing in disorder from victory already achieved?

Who am I? They mock me, these lonely questions of mine.
Whoever I am, Thou knowest, O God, I am thine!

And if your Heav’en and Hell be true,

Force me to Heav’en or Hell—I go,
and hold Fate’s insolence in scorn.
I want not this, I want not that,
already sick of Me and Thee;
And if we’re both transform’d and changed,
what then becomes of Thee and Me?
Enough to think such things may be:
to say they are not or they are
Were folly: leave them all to Fate,
nor wage on shadows useless war.
Do what thy manhood bids thee do,
from none but self expect applause;
He noblest lives and noblest dies
who makes and keeps his self-made laws.
All other Life is living Death,

Only foreign loanwords like “nude” don’t take the palatal onglide before a dental—except in Northeastern, which seems to have spread all over in recent decades.

That along with the loss of the aspirated “w”, the loss of the “aw” sound in “dog”, and the voicing of “t” between vowels so “duty”=”doody”.

To do so meant saddling the fighter variants with a fuselage that is mostly empty space without the lift fan, transfer box, and assorted support equipment. If you’d left the Air Force and Navy to their own devices, they would have produced a sleeker design with less superfluous crap. The old futon chair cushion keeps promising to make it to the back of my truck so I can take it to the dump - it’s moldy under that cover - but the cats love it and we’re past rainy season so I’m letting them enjoy it for a few weeks until we pick up the new cushion and put it back on the chair.

They do have feelings…except most of them suck.

My dog barks like hell at one of my friends. He says the dog hates him. I say, “No, he’s just a good judge of character.”

One of my chronically ill friends has a cat. She’s had a rough time finding in-home care nurses who aren’t giant douchecanoes; the cat, however, has seemed to pick up on those tendencies much earlier than the owner. She’s already talked about how she needs to start figuring out what the cat thinks about potential candidates first.

We have a nest of scrub jays conveniently located in a shrub that is right outside the fixed side of a sliding glass door. MomJay is fine with us-she built the nest there after all. DadJay on the other hand is incredibly easily spooked and won’t feed the youngsters if there is anyone in the room. The worst we get from MomJay is The Look if we’re to close or too loud. I can understand it-I’ve given that Look to various people in my time. The nestlings are growing apace. Not that we need 3 more scrub jays around the yard.

My next-door-neighbor growing up was an avid bird hunter; he had a lovely bird dog, a black Labrador named Babe. Early one weekend, he and his dad took Babe to a game bird farm for a hunt. They were out walking in the field, when all of a sudden Babe started behaving weirdly. She wasn’t pointing, but she’d clearly found something. Then she went into the low scrub and retrieved the mysterious object, and brought it back to my neighbor. It was a pheasant, fast asleep. Apparently, the bird farm would knock out the birds and place them prior to the beginning of the hunt, and this bird hadn’t woken up.

Speaking of Peter Thiel, this is a really good article:

Here are 11 questions you can ask Libertarians to see if they’re hypocrites

But how did Peter Thiel and other Internet billionaires become wealthy? They hired government-educated employees to develop products protected by government copyrights. Those products used government-created computer technology and a government-created communications web to communicate with government-educated customers in order to generate wealth for themselves, which was then stored in government-protected banks—after which they began using that wealth to argue for the elimination of government.

By that standard, Thiel and his fellow “digital libertarians” are hypocrites of genuinely epic proportion. Which leads us to our next question: Does our libertarian use wealth that wouldn’t exist without government in order to preach against the role of government?

The story of his nighttime gift seemed to highlight a unique quality of Trump: his acute sensitivity to losing face on social media. He had routinely rejected questions about the fundraiser for veterans if they were posed in person.

“Why should I give you records?” Trump said in an interview with The Post earlier this month, when he was asked about the money. “I don’t have to give you records.”

Then, on Monday, a Post reporter publicly queried multiple veterans groups on Twitter, asking whether they had received personal donations from Trump. None had.

Dems discuss dropping Wasserman Schultz

Democrats on Capitol Hill are discussing whether Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz should step down as Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairwoman before the party’s national convention in July.

“There have been a lot of meetings over the past 48 hours about what color plate do we deliver Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s head on,” said one pro-Clinton Democratic senator.

re: #510 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge

Agreed. This is the part I like best.

Perhaps none is more extreme than Peter Thiel, who made his fortune with PayPal. In one infamous rant, Thiel complained about allowing women and people he describes as “welfare beneficiaries” (which might be reasonably interpreted as “minorities”) to vote. “Since 1920,” Thiel fulminated, “the extension of the franchise to (these two groups) have turned ‘capitalist democracy’ into an oxymoron.”

With this remark, Thiel let something slip that extreme libertarians prefer to keep quiet: A lot of them don’t like democracy very much. In their world, democracy is a poor substitute for the iron-fisted rule of wealth, administered by those who hold the most of it. Our next test, therefore, is: Does our libertarian believe in democracy? If yes, explain what’s wrong with governments that regulate.

On this score, at least, Thiel is no hypocrite. He’s willing to freely say what others only think: Democracy should be replaced by the rule of wealthy people like himself.
