Despite the ugly images the media protrays, what is the feel of the country of her leadership, in your opinion?

Angela Merkels approval ratings are currently far higher than any other politician in Germany. The figure that is way more important though is that her CDU/CSU are leading the other contender for electing a chancellor the SPD by a wide margin. The former political powerhouse SPD (social-democrats) is currently at an abysmally low 20%, an historical low.
The downside is that a new left-wing party has formed out of the remainder of the GDR’s unity socialist party. This party ‘Die Linke’ is fishing in the same murky electoral pond as the far-right NPD and DVU with the disappointed and enraged populace who easily fall for demagoguery and big ideology.
