The problem is that a man never wants monogamy, even if you convince him that he wants it. We are biologically programmed to mate with anything and everything we can get our hands on, period. He might love you, he might jam himself into a monogamy model just to be with you but when he fucks up later it’s kind of obtuse to say “if you don’t want monogamy don’t marry” because if it were taken literally no man would ever marry.

The prospect of future pain and indignity is sufficiently real that we human mice can walk away from the fucking cheese in the fucking trap. Because that’s what infidelity is.

In any reasonable marriage you’ll get affectionate sex and other benefits. You can throw that all away on a fling. Nibble nibble blam.
