re: #317 ~Fianna

As long as we’re strictly talking REVERSABLE birth control (the pill or Norplant), I don’t see a problem with it. You have kids, something bad happens, we shouldn’t let the kids starve.

However, that doesn’t mean we get to take care of 5 kids, 2 of which came after the payments.

One of the things that a lot of my fellow Liberals don’t like to talk about is the utter hell that has been wrecked on the black family by welfare. The reason that a lot of poor black men don’t father is that they’re either in jail for years on petty drug charges or if they’re around, it’s not as cost effective for them to be in the household since the average salary of an urban male is not great, but still too high to qualify for additional benefits. The kids get better care if dad’s not around permanently than if he is.

Of course I’m not talking sterilization. We know where that leads.

As to taking care of the kids, of course we do, whether we want to or not. You know that.

I don’t think your understanding of the fatherhood bit is very realistic. There is a culture that never expects them to be more than a screw and sperm donor, although many will slip in to take advantage of the free accommodation provided, until the next court date.

In case that sounds racist, I remind that it it is in no way exclusively a black culture thing, just somewhat more obvious there.

You remember the hundreds of FLDS children taken into state care last year on allegations of child abuse? Most of those are single mothers according to the state, and paid accordingly. The difference is that in those cases the system is a bit more sophisticated and daddy cashes the checks and builds a 12 bedroom house for his harem, courtesy of all of us. But that’s respect for religious freedom, and not much discussed by the MSM.
