IIRC, the campaign actually did point out the fact that his numbers didn’t add up. It was the one policy thing they could attack.

You really think it’d help him to be known as a wannabe rapist and a guy who’d sell out the freedom of millions of other people? Maybe it wouldn’t work, but it should have been tried.
