They have hostages until they dispatch small boats and take a ship. The hostages are on the taken ships.

The Indian Navy, or the Chinese, I don’t remember which, have already sunk at least one mothership.

As far a paying ransoms, I guess I can only fall back on the old adage that you subsidise that which you want more of, and tax that which you want less of.

sooner or later innocent people are going to die…but the richer the pirates become the less risk they will want to take…maybe…just a thought
