I can’t decide if this is insane, hilarious, or ballsy:

California woman charged with moving into, claiming Lolo home she didn’t own

Story from about ten years ago in the San Francisco papers: a woman was living in an apartment in San Francisco that had hookups for a gas stove, but no stove. She apparently drove out to some empty military housing on Treasure Island, broke into one of the houses under cover of darkness and removed the stove from the unit, then drove back to the City with it.

She neglected to turn off the gas feed, however. Gas continued to build up in the house until some time in the early morning, when the heating system clicked on, and there was an earth-shattering KABOOM. Or at least a KABOOM loud enough that an MP drove down the hill to see what the hell that was.

The firemen were called, and the house was put out without too much damage.

The lady who took the stove was tracked to her home in SF. She’d installed the stove. Incorrectly. They apparently got to her not too long before her home would also have gone KABOOM.
