You don’t actually live in the western US, do you?

If you did, you’d realize that almost without exception, mass transit systems are UTTER FAILURES in the west (BART being about the only successful one I can think of, offhand).

Western cities are not designed to make mass transit systems practical, whether light rail, subway, bus, or any other scheme you can think up. Cities in the west were built for cars.

Mass transit works in Manhattan and DC because those cities were built for horses.

I’ve been stuck in your legendary California traffic, and those weren’t 19th century horses’ behinds but gazillion cars.

I will not vilify mass transit systems when I think our country could use better technology and less middle eastern/Hugo Chavez oil right now.
