Speaking as someone who has been in cybersecurity for the last decade, those Republican Senators are full of crap. Private corporations are not going to invest the time, effort or money into defense any more than they have to, and have an interest in not sharing information with each other as it effects their bottom line.

PS: as for government regulations killing jobs, if companies were forced to invest in more cybersecurity efforts, I can name dozens of people I know personally who would have job security for years implementing and enforcing the regulations.
