Pain management is a fine art.

I’ve had some temporary back problems that were about as bad as it can get, and I just made do with a couple of aspirin, but that’s me. Not to mention several attacks of gout over the years, that’s one helluva pain, even if it’s focused on one or two toes. I watched Mom get good and doped up for some very real back problems, doctor mishandled it quite badly - unless his aim was actually to kill her - but we got her off them and she’s been fine since. If MJ really needed pain killers, I’m glad he had them, but it’s also very easy to … make mistakes, along those lines. And so he did.

My mom had a disc thing in her back and took pills for a while. She stopped when she realized they were habit-forming. She was very stoic when she was in pain, and she did the exercises (my daddy made her! heh) and got through it with a smile. She was a hell of a lady.
