River in Baton Rouge near LSU. These are from the top of the levee, 2 days ago.

When I was in school at Tulane, I went through the flood in the spring of 1973. I stood on the levee at St. Charles and Carrolton Avenues, where the water was 2’ below the top of the levee and looked down at the dry ground 14’ below and behind me. Ships were cruising by above me, which looked even weirder when looking up at them below the levee. The Morganza Spillway was nearly lost in that flood which would have resulted in the shift of the Mississippi River from its present course into the Atchafalaya Basin.

Which would have destroyed New Orleans and Baton Rouge as port cities. The Morganza is the key to this flood for lower Louisiana. Pray that it holds.
