Two things.

1) Welcome back.

2) SHINGLES VACCINE! Recommended for anyone who has had chicken pox and reached the age of 60 (and some of us who have not yet reached 60).

I’ve had a mild case of shingles, and I’m definitely going to get the shot now that I’ve turned 60. It is a nasty little condition that can linger for weeks.

Mom HAD the vaccine shot in 2008, and this is her first case of shingles. I thought it was one of the “take once and you’re covered” vaccines, but the nurse practitioner said you need to repeat it about every seven years. Checked the CDC site and it says protection lasts about five years. Don’t know if Medicare will cover it, but once Mom’s cleared this bout we’re going to get another shot no matter what it costs. She does not need to go through this again.
