Americans are not necessarily politically and ideologically conservative: they simply respond to people who are sincere or at least successfully project that image.

They want someone who will behave in a manner they can predict, someone who adheres to a clear set of principles, even if they do not agree with those principles.

Bush was able to successfully present that image in 2004, Kerry could not.

Mitt did not undersand that simple notion. His etch-a-sketch broke.

Dr. Bong, astute political analyst, calls this the “stick up your ass” theory.

Americans will vote for the candidate who appears less likely to have a stick up his ass.

Consider:

Obama beat Romney, who looked like he had a stick up his ass.
Obama beat McCain; ditto.
Bush beat both Kerry and Gore, both of whom came across like they had an entire fucking tree up their asses.
Clinton beat Dole, who had a stick up his ass.
Clinton beat George H.W. Bush, who had a bit of a stick up his ass; Bush, in turn, beat Dukakis, who quite possibly had the biggest stick up his ass in modern Presidential politics.

So, yeah — stick, ass.
