Ignoring the fact that the quote you’re alluding to (Let them eat cake) is usually misattributed and misunderstood on top of that, I did not say in any way shape or form that the students in poor undeveloped countries should be using Microsoft software. What I did say is that if we were to start a program in America for our own kids (which would be a good idea, though probably not the most pressing educational reform on the agenda), we would probably be best served by educating them on the computers that they would almost certainly be using after they graduated. We have the luck to live a country prosperous enough that we would not necessarily have to go for the cheapest option if we implemented a laptop program.

Obviously countries that do not have that good fortune (e.g. Uruguay) do the best for their children that they can, and should be applauded for that.
