I will take a minor quibble with your argument - at first Dachau was seen as an extermination camp where 200,000+ perished (or, rather, there was no clear distinction between death camps and “just” concentration camps, considering the conditions in the latter as well as paucity of information), and the gas chamber was hyped in the newsreels (take a look at the original ones at USHMM site), so IF one argues from the assumption of “deceptive Americans”, it would make some sense, especially since Americans didn’t liberate the extermination camps. Of course, to argue like that one must be a loon in the first place. Which is my point about the webmaster. I had a hoot of a correspondence with her. She actually denied writing that text I linked to, lying that it was written by her webmaster without her knowing it (LOL). And here are some quotes (from 2004):
