Note however that even if Wilders had won the most votes, he would not have been PM. Thanks to proportional representation, a majority against Wilders would have carried the day, no matter over how many parties it is spread.

The US two-party system is double-edged. It can suppress bad crazy if a party’s embrace of bad crazy causes it to lose elections.

However, the tale of the last 10 years is exactly the reverse. The bad crazy gets amplified because no amount of bad crazy will cause the supposed ‘moderates’ to stop voting GOP.
