For 6 years 1967-73 I delivered the morning Pittsburgh Post Gazette to 60 people and the afternoon Pittsburgh Press to 45. I remember those COLD mornings bundling up to deliver the papers. I made a vow that when I was able I was going to get the hell out of Pittsburgh and figure out a way to move to Grandma’s place in South Gate California.

I left Pittsburgh for good on January 16, 1982 just as a blizzard was hitting. Landed at a very foggy Ontario (CA) airport because LAX was fogged out. Had to take a 3 hour bus ride from Ontario to LAX. Got in a taxi, arrived at Grandma’s home at 4 in the morning, hit the sack. Got up around noon, Grandma told me to go outside and pick a couple tangerines for breakfast. In January. It was 70 degrees. Heaven. I never wanted to go back!
