For someone who usually gives powerfully delivered speeches, this is a poor job. Obviously, he did not pre-read it. I am embarrassed that this is the best the US has to offer.

In fairness, BHO was not using a prompter today, which forced him to look down at his script repeatedly. When using the prompter, he can maintain a semblence of eye contact with his audience since he is reading the same script, but it is in front of his face. Personally, the fact that he had to look down at his script gave it a more solemn feel than if he was able to maintain his usual gaze into the distance while reading his speech. I think you picked up on the essence of his public speaking secret: the prompter makes him seem omnipotent and brilliantly talented. But today he seemed to be neither of them.
