re: #354 urbanmeemaw
How fucking depressing is it to be told, as an experienced adult who has managed a job, a home, children and other aspects of a life, that she doesn’t have the “skills”, because she doesn’t have a 4 yr degree, to be promoted to a job she could do in her spare time? This is what women, and minorities, have been told for far too long.
I’ll never forget the time I was told by a young 20-something HR type at a bank, when I was job seeking in my 50s, that I had to “sacrifice” if I wanted a decent job (this was for a clerical position). I wanted to reach across that desk and smack the shit out of her and it made me so ashamed, I started crying.
This is part of the kind of thing I think he’s getting at. When we have to have several degrees to do a job that a monkey could learn, what does that say about our society?
“For many of us, society has become increasingly alienating, isolating and insane, and earning a buck means more degrees, compliance, ass-kissing, shit-eating, and inauthenticity.”
