Up here in SE Alaska, both hard metal, underground mines have been hiring over the last several months. The mines produce zinc, silver, and quite a bit of gold. Both are in remote locations so the companies have “man camps” for their employees. Yah, I know man camp is sexist but that’s a hold-over from earlier times. Both mines employ many females. Starting pay for a novice miner runs about $60K/year. Experienced miners with time in can earn $100K+/yr. It takes that kind of money to have an average life style in SE Alaska.

So, mining jobs are available if you want to relocate. I doubt that Kentucky coal miner with the family could ever afford to move here even if he wanted to.

But you get to be a star on A&E !!
