Since you seem to be interested in this “joke” that NSA adviser James Jones blurted out I thought I would try and search for some origins of the joke.

I was able to locate one back to Mr. Bagel Funnies dated June 24, 2007 at Mr. Bagel Funnies. He was the winner of “Jewish & Israeli Blog Awards ~ 2007 Best of the Rest.”

He hat tips a website called Jewlarious and the there you can find the same joke which was submitted by Moshe Miller. Jewlarious is part of Aish International (“Aish HaTorah, founded in Jerusalem by Rabbi Noah Weinberg in 1974, is dedicated to revitalizing the Jewish people by providing opportunities for Jews of all backgrounds to discover their heritage in an atmosphere of open inquiry and mutual respect.”)

The joke also made the round at some Christian and gun forums. The joke originally used al Qaeda in place of Taliban.
