I definitely think Newt has the edge on Romney at this point vis a vis the Republican base. Basically, the base can’t stand Romney. Ok, the party elites can’t stand Gingrich but in this Tea Party election, the base is going to speak. Yes, the rich irony is that Dick Armey kinda created the Tea Party and he can’t stand Gingrich. Just love that. Armey played Cantor to Gingrich’s Boehner but with persona’s reversed.

Gingrich is a gifted campaigner. He recruited and campaigned a House majority into existence. Not an easy task. You can laugh at him and his multiple foibles all you want but he has that Reaganesque ability to just move forward. Clinton had that too.

But Gingrich has an Achilles heel. The guy is completely undisciplined and listens to no one. Why listen when you’re the smartest motherfucker in the universe? Romney is the opposite and Obama is the opposite. They listen. Very disciplined.

So this could be a matchup between a puncher and an artist. And I think Obama’s discipline would grind Gingrich down. But one thing the Republicans will rue in their choice of Newt. Newt only cares about Newt. Sorry Callista. And he’ll take down the entire party with him in general if he face plants.
