Well, I’m glad it stayed open because Naval Surface Warfare Center Dam Neck (which is co-located with Oceana) sends people to my company’s conferences.

This is one of those narrow focuses that are a problem. I’m not entirely part of the solution in some of these things, so I feel it needed to engage in a bit of disclosure in the interests of honesty.

And that’s part of the reason that the idea of a commission is great, in theory. In practice, as soon as such a commission was even proposed, aimed at deciding the ultimate fate of the F-35 program, you’d have an absolute ruckus in Congress. Every Congress critter whose reelection bid would be threatened by job losses in his district would be against the commission’s creation. Not to mention the warhawks who’d be aghast at the idea of even suggesting the program being cancelled.

So yeah, I like the idea, but the political reality is it would never go anywhere.
