At this point they are 400 votes apart — four hundred out of nearly 1,400,000 votes cast. It’s quite incredible. So unless the final precincts are quite dramatically for one or the other, I’m thinking we’re in for a recount.

How is it possible that the American electorate keeps producing these razor-thin margins when you also feel as if the two sides are miles apart?
