Booker overcame the Sharpe James political machine and not only ended up winning a seat on the city council, but perservered and ended up winning the mayor against James’ handpicked successor. He then got his own slate of candidate onto the city council to help with his agenda in reinvigorating the city.

There’s a lot of work still to be done, but there’s a change in how the city sees itself, and there’s pride where there was once shame and ridicule.

Businesses are starting to come back to Newark, and getting the Prudential Center built helps in some respects. The next step will be building up around the arena and that’s on his agenda.

Crime rates are down since he first took office, but there’s still a way to go.

And the tweets do quite a bit in getting local businesses noticed and encouraging people to visit - whether for a sports event or the Newark Museum (which has an eclectic and interesting collection).
