Well, in the last thread people were posting answers to a New York Times quiz that attempts to isolate what part of the country you are from based on various questions.

It has pretty maps and such based on the posts here, but it requires an account. Since I don’t have one, I don’t exist. /s

So I went looking for a similar test, but no account requirements, and I found one. It only gives bar graphs for the likelihood you grew up in a particular region, pegged me correctly.

You may think you speak “Standard English straight out of the dictionary” but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like “Are you from Wisconsin?” or “Are you from Chicago?” Chances are you call carbonated drinks “pop.”

(Being stationed all over the south as a young adult might have affected the final result somewhat, but it gave a 70% chance to the Northeast and 67% to Philadelphia.)

I’m from central Michigan originally, so I guess the test got that right. (I don’t get asked if I’m from Wisconsin here though, I get asked if I’m from Canada, mostly from people who have not heard a Canadian speak.)
