I responded to the threat of nuclear war by buying cookbooks and ingredients. Sicilian, Georgian, Burmese.

I keep telling myself there’s a bigger picture where everything’s still beautiful and smaller picture in which things can be fun and distracting. And keeping sane is all about know when to shift magnifications.

Not that I’m always great at it.
