And that’s part of the reason that the idea of a commission is great, in theory. In practice, as soon as such a commission was even proposed, aimed at deciding the ultimate fate of the F-35 program, you’d have an absolute ruckus in Congress. Every Congress critter whose reelection bid would be threatened by job losses in his district would be against the commission’s creation. Not to mention the warhawks who’d be aghast at the idea of even suggesting the program being cancelled.

So yeah, I like the idea, but the political reality is it would never go anywhere.

But then you just have a program stuck on stupid. So you have to put the choice to them: Agree to the commission or the program gets cut summarily. Thus they can either say they tried to save it or fail utterly.
