Well, it may not be formally a caste system, but in practice… a lot of people are stuck.

Anyway, in particular in Egypt, I wouldn’t rule out the food problem. They really are quite dependent upon importing food. Now, so is Japan, but the Japanese have successfully embedded themselves into the workings of modern gadgetry to the extent that they are net exporters of stuff.

As such, I don’t see Egypt as a particularly good example of a country with a bright future. It wouldn’t surprise me if the trouble we see now goes on for a very long time.
