I think the internet makes a big difference from the Clinton years. What makes it even worse is Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and even prominent Republicans are spreading conspiracy theories and talk of revolution.

Definitely. The internet, and the fact that the crazy is bleeding into the mainstream via Fox News, Glenn Beck…Palin, Bachmann…even the main GOP.

For example: two days ago I got an email from the DCCC that starts as follows:

Republicans know the truth is not on their side. Since the beginning of August recess, they’ve come out with one outlandish lie after another to derail meaningful health insurance reform — but this one takes the cake.

In a “poll” mailed to supporters, the RNC is actually suggesting that health insurance reform is a Democratic plot to deny health care to Republicans using voter registration data:

It’s not as if there aren’t legitimate questions and objections to raise against the reform, but what’s up with the outright lies and fearmongering? It’s really depressing that it’s coming from the RNC itself, not random kooks and pundits.
