The only time I ever heard ‘Rad’ when I was young it was immediately followed by “-iator”, by the inbred yokels local folks where I grew up who were unable to pronounce RAdiator properly.

The only person I ever met who pronounced it like that was from New Jersey. Figured it was one of those weird local things like saying “standing on line” instead of “standing in line” like normal folks.
