On one hand there is a point there. On the other, it’s a really crappy comparison insofar as I (and a LOT of people, especially in Israel right now where her comment is making headline news) am concerned.

Although there is a distinction between officially sanctioned government discrimination/violence and a country overrun by criminal gangs that punish any who do not cooperate, to the civilians fleeing terror and violence, that is a distinction without a meaning. In either case, innocent people are trying to find a safe haven, protect their families and provide a future for their children.
