re: #384 quickjustice

It’s similar to the Pope lecturing as to religious tolerance and invoking the Koran in a discussion of Islam; you’d quote the parts of the Koran to support your thesis. You don’t have to be a Muslim to quote it.

Here’s where Gaffney gets all screwed up. It’s not whether Obama is Muslim. He isn’t according to Obama himself. That’s good enough for me. But I wasn’t the target audience. The Middle East, which is chock full of Muslims (just about 1 billion or so).

It’s how Muslims view Obama. Do some see him as Muslim (because he was born to a Muslim parent)? I’d say so. Does that mean that he’s got some special rapport? Not at all, and some Muslims who see him as a Muslim would also think him apostate because he doesn’t practice.

His lecture falls flat because actions speak louder than words, and Obama has largely followed Bush’s policies on the Middle East - while tweaking them around the fringes, and willingly jumped into the Arab-Israeli peace mess thinking he could be the difference-maker, ignoring decades of such sentiments and the facts on the ground that show that unless and until Palestinians recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, there can be no peace.

He’s trying to be all things to all people, and he’s failing. More to the point, he can’t be all things to all people because it is contradictory on its face.
