I’ve pretty much always described myself as a libertarian. And on plenty of occasions have voted for Democrats over Republicans. But I also studied political science and history, so my ideology is more than taxes are theft and all government action is tyranny. About a 10-12 years ago, I joked that one night I went to bed as a center-right libertarian and woke up a center-left libertarian, without any of my positions really changing.

The best summary of my views is that liberty is a balancing point, a fulcrum between tyranny and anarchy (what Hamilton would have called license). Sometimes you need more regulation, sometimes you need less; but ultimately it comes down to balancing equities.

You’re a reasonable person with a philosophical viewpoint seemingly aligned with what at times has been called ‘Libertarian’. To me, the current ‘libertarians’ are represented by NM’s former governor: ‘What’s a Leppo?’ Johnson.
