My mom sponsored one of those kids for 16 years. The cost to her was so small, it was spare change that she would have frittered away. Because of her sponsorship, the kid was able to stay in school longer. She sent extra money for school at the beginning of the year, and extra at Christmas. In the letters she got, the money she sent for Christmas gave everyone in the family a nicer Christmas than they would have had.

For pennies a day, spare change.

Reine, my grandmother sponsored a kid in Africa. Pennies a day. She never bragged about it; only we in the family knew.
