Trump thinks that these tariffs are gonna force steel exporting countries to negotiate “fair” deals with us in order to get out from under the tariffs.

The reality is those countries will flip him off while raising the cost of their products, and the companies that rely upon those imports will simply pass the cost onto their customers because the cost of sourcing out the amount/quality of steel they need from US sources would be higher.

I’m no global economist but couldn’t China and maybe some other countries drop their pricing to absorb the tariff and still get their steel into this country at a profit due to their economy and labor? And if true, won’t that just turn the whole damn pissing match into nothing good for anyone?
