Yep. That’s a large part of it. Gingrich gets to claim “I’m forgiven in the eyes of the lord” and continue to pretend to be a moral authority. To them, adultery is temporary and once they cease to engage in adultery they can ask for forgiveness and claim providence and salvation. But also to them they see homosexuality as permanent and the only option for them is to cease being gay. Until that time comes they will be considered “sinners” by the likes of the Republican Party at large. You see, Ensign is no longer committing adultery so he’s in the clear in the eyes of the Sky Hook.
