re: #38 pinkbunny

I have a question, what about the physical effects of being on the moon long term? I’m a huge trekkie fan, but I always wondered how do you solve the physical changes & hardship of being in space?

On the moon you would weigh less than 20% of earth weight. We know that weightlessness is bad long term due to bone mass loss. We don’t know if 20% (without special effort at exercising) would be enough to stabilize at some point.

It might be a good idea to find that out before setting up a 51st state with thousands of people./

As to space, it is not technically difficult to have a long term space station with centrifugal gravity, like in the movie 2001 and others. We just haven’t gotten that far to need it yet.
