I think it’s a little obtuse. The BNP certainly capitalized on spending scandals but they don’t have a fiscally conservative agenda. Same with Geert, VB, FN, FPO or any of the other creeps. They’re appeal is not about economics.

You are confusing two very different blocs in the recent European elections. The so-called “Right” which are conservative political parties, and the so-called “Extreme Right”, such as BNP, Vlaams Belang and others.

The ordinary “Right” parties advocate fiscal responsibility. The Extreme Right advocate racism and xenophobic social & immigration policies, but their economic platforms are straight out of the Left & Labor parties. Most of the new voters for the BNP are disenchanted working class Brits. You are correct, their appeal is not on sound economics.
