It doesn’t even rise to that level. They don’t even believe these people have earned the right to be here, after decades of hard labor and working to build a better lives for themselves. Why? Same reason that white plantation owners wouldn’t accept that help being an American citizen: They didn’t like the idea that the people they’ve been taking advantage of would suddenly be equals in the eyes of the law. In their minds, there’s two kinds of people: “Us” and “The Help.”
