They are years away from nukes, have no long range delivery system while the others have both. If we able to deter the Soviet Union with 1000’s of war heads for decades, we can surly deal with a piss ant Iran even if they manage a program without us or Israel taking them out.

Iran learned how to launch missiles from ships in Caspian Sea. Put a Shahab III on ship and we are threatened, an 300km high air burst would shut down the Eastern 2/3rds of the US. Or simply lob it at DC or New York in a fractional orbit tracetory and our response time would be 3-8 minutes instead of 20.
