It’s more in keeping with the wingnut delusion that New York is a hellhole that’s half Pyongyang, and half “Escape from New York”. They need this delusion to be true, because New York is run by lib’ruls and lib’ruls ruin everything, right?

They might have had a point circa 1977, but as someone who has lived here for 10 years now (in Brooklyn), I just have to laugh and shake my head. Per capita, NY is probably safer than many of the southern and midwestern suburbs where wingnuts live.
