There are so many similarities to the hysteria. I remember when the crackpots were saying that Bush was going to create a “fascist state” through a “national emergency” and “marshal law.”

Oh, yeah, it’s nearly identical in large pieces. Just last year, I was arguing with people who said that Bush would establish a military dictatorship and refuse to leave office. Remember, all these people, regardless of how they vote, are drawing on the same bank of all-American fears and prejudices and craziness. This is the just really dark, whacko side of our political culture.
