Thus some on the left thoughlessly accused Charlton Heston of racism when he was president of the NRA, though all biographies of him have shown that he strongly believed in racial equality.

Charlton Heston was a strong supporter of civil rights in his early years, it’s true, but when he was head of the NRA he made a number of extremely disturbing racially tinged statements.
