Hell, originally it was considered unseemly to run a campaign for president, or to even be considered to want the job. Imagine campaigns basically being run by SuperPACs and the actual candidates saying things like “if it’s the will of the people, and the electors, then I will serve.”

“I will not accept if nominated and will not serve if elected.”
