Like I said above, scratch that — there was no original text. I meant to say, and should have said, the accompanying “assignment” for students to write about “how can we help the President”.

You have no basis for claiming ‘there was no text’ before the assignment. That speech was total boilerplate, harmless, nice rhetoric for kids about working hard. Some sections of it are exactly like Obama’s campaign speeches, almost word for word (all the personal history stuff).

The assignment “What can you do to help the POTUS?” is and has always been utterly uncontroversial, given that it was completely predictible that Obama’s speech would talk about his priority of making sure that America remains foremost in the development of science, education, medical and technological advancement, etc. And ‘helping the POTUS would be about “how can you, personally, make sure you are part of America’s future, and fulfill the American promise of excelling and achieving to the fullest extent of your abilities and desires, no matter where you came from and no matter what your life circumstances are?”

It was obvious to anyone who has spent any time involved in education at any level that this was a reading/listening comprehension exercise and one about personal goals.

Or you can count the c’s in Obama’s speech, and the i’s, and tell me that it was really all about being a commie and suppression of individual rights. Glnn Bk will say something like that shortly no doubt.
