Fair enough. The US isn’t going to have a single payer system though. I’d totally say so if I thought this legislation was a stalking horse for it.

In reality, it’s highly unlikely (at the moment) that the reform will even include a public option (which is the aspect people target as being a stealth way of bringing in single payer.)

I had a long talk a couple days ago with an American friend, a Democrat & fervent Obama supporter. He praised Obama, saying “he’s smart enough to realize he can’t bring in a full universal single-payer healthcare system, such as Canada has, all at once. So he has to go step-by-step. But don’t worry, in time, we well have it!”

Now you can spin this current pitch from Obama anyway you want. But the fact is many Democrats want it, and Obama is on the record calling for a single payer system, in the past. This plan is a Cloward-Piven style strategy designed to bankrupt private medicare system. Then the People will demand the full deal.
